The open, non-contact RGH34 encoder is a versatile miniaturised component system. Designed for OEM applications where a conventional enclosed readhead cannot be fitted, the RGH34 brings reliable performance to compact precision linear actuators, microscopes, and microstages.
RGH34 system features and benefits - Can be integrated into a range of micro systems
- High speed, reliable operation with zero friction and zero wear
- RGI34 interface processes signals from the RGH34 readhead into industry standard digital and analogue outputs
- Low mass (<2 grams) minimizes the inertia of the system
- 40 µm pitch scale offers generous readhead set-up tolerances
- Set-up LED (on RGI34 interface) simplifies set-up
- Patented filtering optics guarantee excellent signal stability in conditions unsuitable for most open, optical encoders
- The reference mark provides a repeatable home position whilst the limit offers end of axis travel indication.
- The RGH34 reads 40 µm RGS40-S tape scale, 40 µm RGS40-G glass scale and 40 µm RESR rings as well as industry standard 40 µm glass scale
Compare the RGH34 with alternative optical linear readheads. RGS40-S 40 µm pitch tape scale
RGS40-S scale is manufactured from a thin flexible steel strip, which is gold plated to give high reflectivity and corrosion resistance. It is mounted using adhesive backing tape to most engineering materials, including metals, ceramics and composites.
- Scale is supplied on a reel and can be cut to suit any axis length up to 70 m
- RGS-S scale simplifies thermal compensation by matching the thermal behaviour of the substrates it is affixed to
- Applicator tool enables fast and accurate scale installation
- Lacquer coated scale is easy to clean and resistant to handling
- 'Cut-to-measure' convenience ensures minimum waste and efficient inventory management
- ±3 µm/m linearity enables high accuracy with simple compensation
RGS40-G 40 µm pitch glass scale
RGS40-G 40 µm glass scale is read by RGH34 and RGH40 readheads. RGS40-G is ideal for applications where the scale needs to move independently of the substrate. The thermal behaviour of RGS40-G can be compensated for by the host controller using temperature sensors.
- Available in a range of measuring lengths from 120 mm to 1 m
- Defined thermal behaviour; C.T.E ~8.5 µm/m/°C
- Accuracy of <±5 µm/m
- Easy to install, directly to the substrate, using datum clamp and mechanical clips or adhesive backing tape
