True Raman Imaging™
Rapid surveying of samples
If you know what you are looking for you do not always need detailed spectral information. In this case, True Raman Imaging is the ideal technique to use. It takes a very fast ‘photo' of your sample, filtered to show only a very narrow frequency range. You choose the wavelength to reveal the distribution of a chemical species of interest.
True Raman Imaging is especially useful if you want to survey a large number of very similar samples.
True Raman Imaging
True Raman Imaging is inherently fast. It keeps the sample stationary and collects all data simultaneously. It does not need to spend time collecting a complete spectrum from each point on the sample.
True Raman Imaging spreads the laser power over a large area, enabling you to maximise the available power without any risk of damaging the sample. This leads to very short acquisition times.
Losing focus…but keeping sharp
True Raman Imaging works by:
- defocusing the laser
- illuminating a large area of the sample
- selecting a narrow frequency range of light using a tuneable filter
- directly imaging this light onto the CCD detector, just like taking a photo
It is simple to use. You choose the Raman band of interest and the system automatically selects and tunes the appropriate filter for you.
Regions that Raman-scatter at the frequency of interest appear bright on the image, thereby showing the location, shape and distribution of the material.
